Apropos of nothing
What happens in Vegas remains an object of pity and bemusement
Usually the novelty of outsiders’ views of Las Vegas doesn’t stray far beyond the people-actually-live-there? cliche, but this nugget from The Daily Beast’s Buzz Board, posted by one Douglas Schoen, seals the deal: In the economicocalypse, we’re a howling stretch of neon desolation — but oh what a bargain!
Just returned from Las Vegas where I have travelled to for business and pleasure for over 20 years. City is absolutely empty and prices are at close to record lows. Four and five star hotels go for $50 to $60 per night and there is world class dining (better than NYC and cheaper). World class entertainment performing regularly (Elton John, Billy Joel, Bette Midler), again cheaper than anywhere else.
Absolutely empty? Damn. Terry Lanni is onto something.
[insert sound of winds scouring the depopulated outlands]
