Somebody wrote to us today and wondered thusly: If Gov. Jim Gibbons is really going to bill the widow of missing-and-presumed-dead adventurer Steve Fossett for search and rescue costs, then would Metro Police and the Clark County district attorney be billing Gibbons for the investigation into whether he tried to sexually assault cocktail waitress Chrissy Mazzeo in Las Vegas in October 2006?
Ha! Now that’s funny. Not because it makes about as much sense to bill the family of a missing person for the costs of searching for a family member as it does to bill Gibbons for the necessity to probe his alleged misconduct. No, it’s funny because it’s our understanding that the Gibbons investigation was already bought and paid for.
