Obama campaign gets kiss of death

This just in, people: According to a Review-Journal news flash sent just seconds ago, the newspaper’s editorial board plans to endorse Illinois U.S. Sen. Barack Obama for president. (Its recommendation is for the Democratic caucus only; a GOP recommendation will come Thursday.)

Obama’s campaign was already suffering after being endorsed by the 2004 Democratic nominee for president, U.S. Sen. John Kerry. But the R-J’s backing clearly has weighted the freshman senator’s bid to the point where it cannot help but sink.

In the news flash, the R-J declares that Obama is the most viable of all the Democratic candidates left standing. But given that the R-J is a libertarian newspaper that daily rails against Democrats, universal health care, taxing the rich and the like, we have a couple questions that might put this endorsement into perspective:

Why would the R-J want to help any Democrat? And why would Democrats listen to a newspaper that mocks them almost 365 days a year?

Just a thought.

Oh, by the way, the rival Las Vegas Sun likes Clinton. And CityLife, while making no official endorsement of a candidate, predicted earlier this month that Clinton would win the Nevada caucus, and the Democratic nomination (and the presidency, for that matter).
