Well, dear readers, it’s that time again. The Legislature is coming to a close, and we are packing our bags and heading north to witness the final spectacle, which by constitutional mandate must end no later than midnight on the 120th day, which by our calculations is June 4, 2007.
Betting on a special session is running pretty high right now, since we just received word from a secret Carson City correspondent that lawmakers are done for the day, a day in which bills are supposed to move from their committee or be considered dead.
So, all we’ve got to do is catch a plane, rent a car, check into a hotel, whip out the trusty laptop and blog away! (We’ll also have columns and stories in CityLife.) All the lawmakers have to do is solve the education funding crisis, the roads funding crisis, the university system funding crisis, the prisons funding crisis and pass a few other miscellaneous bills aimed at a few other miscellaneous problems and presto! Done.
Yeah, get those special session commemorative lapel pins ready.
Anyway, stay tuned to the blog starting Monday for some dispatches from the north as the Legislature winds down. We promise to find the few entertaining things and totally make fun of them. Until then!
